Pinched Pencil Case
I found a tutorial on Pinterest this afternoon and could not resist making it up. 100 other things I should have been doing with my time, but I opted to do this instead and it’s made me smile every time I look at it. Silly I know, but it’s the little things, right?
I pieced together scraps and used a vintage zipper I purchased from another Etsy seller’s de-stash sale for pennies. I was really impressed with how easily and quickly it went together, even with my more intricate fabric piecing. And I’m ever so pleased with how cute it turned out.
The tutorial is 100% pictures, which is good since it’s posted on an Asian craft blog, so anyone can follow the instructions. The pouch is a bit smaller than I’d pictured for a pencil case, it’s more a pen case than for full size pencils. Next time I make it I’m going to experiment with using a longer piece of fabric. I’d recommend adding a fusible interfacing or using a heavier weight fabric, like canvas or decorator fabric to help the case hold it’s shape. This one is made with plain unlined cotton and it’s a little flimsy.
My niece turns 9 later this month and I’m thinking she might enjoy a version of this pouch in her birthday box.
