Family Game Night
We’re coming to the end of the kids Spring Break. We spent the last couple of days in St. Louis visiting family and seeing the sites. We’d planned on being outside, geo-caching and climbing Elephant Rocks, but the weather had other plans. The temps were in the 40s the entire time we were there and yesterday it snowed 6 inches! So we did lots of exploring at the St. Louis Science Center and played games inside.
The family games of choice, chess and Monopoly Deal, a card game our family was introduced too over Christmas break, that was an instant family favorite. So much so that since first of the year, we have purchased sets for both grandparents, given it as a birthday gift three times, and gotten most of our siblings hooked on the game. Too bad we don’t get commission ;).
The premise is very similar to the board game, but the pace is much faster which is helpful when playing on a school night. Rather than spending hours playing a single game, someone typically wins in ~15 minutes. It’s also much less predictable than the board game, property and money are constantly changing hands so the outcome of the game takes lots of twists and turns during the course of the game.
Monopoly Deal. $5-6 (Target/Wal-mart)
For 2-6 players
Rated for ages 8+, but the 4.5 year-old can hold his own pretty well with a little bit of help from Mom or Dad, and the toddler is catching on fast!
